In Pakistan many people say shilajit is for winter only. Others take it all year. Both are common. Here is how to adjust your routine for summer and for winter.
Why people link shilajit with winter
In traditional medicine shilajit is described as a warming substance, so people used it more in the cold months. That is a tradition and not a rule. Many people today take it all year, adjusting the amount.
Winter routine
- Usual amount: 300 to 500 mg a day, a pea-sized piece.
- Take it with warm milk or warm water in the morning or evening.
- Resin gets harder in the cold. Let the closed jar sit at room temperature before scooping.
Summer routine
- Start at the lower end, around 300 mg or less.
- Drink more water through the day.
- Take it in the cooler part of the day and avoid taking it right before going out in strong heat.
- Store the jar in a cool, shaded place. Resin gets soft and sticky in heat. See what good resin looks like.
If you feel too warm in summer
Reduce the amount, take it after food and increase water. If heat, headache or stomach upset continues, stop and read why shilajit can feel heating. Our Urdu guide on shilajit in sardiyon covers the winter side.
Season and form
- Summer: drops in a cool drink or gummies can be easier than hot milk.
- Winter: resin in warm milk, or honey sachets.
